Widdecombe Retires

The Rt. Hon. Ann Widdecombe, who was Member of Parliament for 23 years, first for Maidstone and latterly for Maidstone and the Weald retired at the 2010 General Election.

On Saturday 20th July she said farewell at a dinner given in her honour at St Ronan’s School, Hawkhurst.

Speaking at the occasion she said: ‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have made the last 23 years so rewarding and especially the Officers and Members of Maidstone and the Weald Conservative Association’.

In January 2008, Mrs Helen Grant was selected as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Maidstone and the Weald. She was elected on May 6th 2010.

In March 2008, Ann bought a house on Dartmoor where she intends to write more novels. Ann loves walking on the moors and is renovating her house where she intends to spend the rest of her life!!
